Topic for the 2018-2019 Contest Year: School Violence

The Topic for the 2018-2019
Can’t Beat Love SA Youth Film Contest:

School Violence

Topic Overview:

School violence has become one of the most hotly debated topics in communities all across the US. While statistically violence in schools is very rare, the perception of increased risk and the emotional toll violence has taken is very real. Filmmakers will be asked to explore the topic of school violence and take any number of approaches in revealing its prevalence, the perspectives of the perpetrators, the victims, the families, and the extended community. Filmmakers are encouraged to research the topic thoroughly using mainstream reputable sources, explore various coping mechanisms available for students, and carve out a possible path forward for younger students as they become increasingly aware of these events.
Winning films and PSAs will be used as part of the ongoing education programs for Family Violence and Prevention Services as well as the National Council of Jewish Women. For questions related to the topic or other aspects of the contest, please contact Rhonda Grimm at rgrimm@pt.net or Linda Canizales at Linda.Canizales@fvps.org.
